Q: How long does it take to cut gemstones?

A: Generally, work on a stone a day. We don’t cut a stone every day, week out but We do try to keep up a good pace. It also depends on the size of the stone, the complexity of the design, type of materials, etc. Smaller simpler designs may be four or five hours a stone. Medium sort of stones about five to eight hours while other stones can take 2 or more days.

Some stone like sapphires simply take a little longer to do because it is hard stone. Big stone with big facets can take a lot longer to polish. We certainly don’t rush our cutting. We give each stone the same high level of attention and care. Being in a hurry and rushing one’s cutting is some way to botch things up. Q: What if I need my certificate and I cannot find it?

A: When you order a gemstone, we ship it to you with the accompanying gemstone identification report. These
identification reports are detailed documents created by a gemstone grading expert at one of four highly-respected
gemstone laboratories – making it very expensive to replace a gemstone grading report.

Because of this, we require each gemstone grading report to be included with each returned gemstone. If you do not include the gemstone grading report with your return, you will be charged a replacement fee of $250. An Identification gemstones report will be provided on additional cost of certain 50US $.

Colour is the most factor that determines other factors. Color is the science in and of it and plays a key role in determining the value of a gemstone. The three main terms are “HUE” means the actual color, e.g., Blue, Green, Red etc, and “SATURATION” means the richness or vividness of the hue and “TONE” means the lightness or darkness of the hue. Be wary of gemstones that are so dark you cannot see through them and appear to swallow the light, where there is little brilliance. Garnets and Sapphires are a common one for this.

Finding gem with a pure single hue is very rare thing indeed and the price can sky rocket accordingly. I could and cut a hundred pieces of rough and not one of them will be a pure hue.

The vast majority of gems will have some degree of secondary hue. For example, sapphires will often be blue with a hint of a green or red garnet with a touch of range.

It’s just how these stone are. Having secondary hues is in no way a bad thing as this can add wonderfully subtle levels of complexity beaty and depth of the gem. Then there are pleochroic stones which is a technical term for many colours.

Some stone are dichronic showing two colours, some are trichroic showing three colours. When you move the stone around and view it from different angles you see different colours.

Tourmaline andTanzanite are good example of this. This characteristic should not be viewed as a negative thing. It’s what makes eachstone a beautiful and unique creation.
